Player Ratings for tonight?
From those that went for those that didn't/couldn't, how did the players rate?

Morrison show any glimpses? Sakho or Valencia likely to oust Cole for Saturday? How did the young centre half and Potts play? Demel ready to take O'Brien's place again?

Cheers in advance!

I disagree, Shef unt worked hard. We were the better side over 120 mins but didn't make it count!

It seemed to me they were all working on their opta stats. Its the scourge of modern football. There was no need, the opposition were fucking pony.

Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
Ravel played very deep, tried hard and was ok. Poyet looked good again. Demel had a good game & got forward lot. Burke looked a good prospect and very assured for one so young. I like the look of Sakho, very lively. Valencia had a quiet game, but it's early days. Potts looked solid & again got forward well. Most of the others we already know about.

Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
I watched Sakho and Valencia and they did seem to make decent runs...found space etc hence the chances that fell their way . Valencias' one -on-one for instance from Reece's ball out wide..
But that s' the flanks - Demel had the freedom of the right in the 1st half..
We dont get anything penetrative diagonally or straight from the centre mids..

Poyet was better sitting back read the game well and got loads of tackles in.

Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
But could Noble and Poyet play in the same 11? Very similar players. For some reason I think Poyet would be more of an asset further up the pitch, since Morrison doesn't seem to have a free role there. Having said that, he does need runners to give it too, and there were precious few of those last night all in all.

Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
Ravel reminded me of what we [ pards ] used to ask Carrick to do .. countless pointless sideways passes..
At least M.C could pass forward or diagonally , defence splitting , goal creating chances,,following a mazy run, such as vs Spurs in the League Cup match circa 2003 which he bossed.
Morrison should watch vids of that performance [ or Pirlo etc ] because it's one thing, feeling the crowds' expectations everytime he gets the ball, but another having 20 thousand murmers of 'no end product' 4 seconds later, when you re a supposed playmaker.
The joys of charisma vs actual usefulness eh.

Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
In a summary, Poyet was our best player last night, excellent in posession, never gave the ball away, strong in the tackle, I know Allardyce has said he is one for the future but I think he at least deserves a place on the bench Saturday.

Valencia looked woeful, I think he won 1 header all evening, can't hold the ball up, and when he got his 1 on 1 chance he shot straight at the keeper, as others have said, when he was walking up to take his pen everyone just knew he was going to miss, maybe he is still carrying a knock? For 12m I hope that sort of performance isn't going to be a regular occurance.

Everyone else average.

Quick question, why the fuck did Noble take the captaincy off of Reid when he come on?

Was there any need for that?

When Nones came on he made about the first genuinely incisive pass in the game. Made Poyet look like the kid he is.

Is that when he passed it off the pitch? That one?

Sounds like Collins and Tomkins at CB for Saturday would send a message without weakening the side particularly.

So Poyet and Burke were the bright spots.

Reid wants out by the looks / sounds of things ? :-(

Didn't do much in terms of goalkeeping but really not sure what he's been told to do with the ball distribution wise, but I've not seen a goalkeeper look that uncomfortable for a long time. Not since the back pass change turned Ludo into a bag of nerves.

Demel - 8
Easily one of our best players. Got forward brilliantly in the first half.

Burke - 7
Having seen him a few times I was worried he was lightweight and took up terrible positions. I thought he looked really good last night. Almost scored, and a nice little run from the back in the second half.

Reid - 6
What's wrong with him? He's lost that concentration in matches. Every time a decision goes against him, he's screaming at the ref and it's affecting his performance.
He was slide tackled in the first half, and should have got a corner. Both occasions he sulked, and lost that bite to his game.
He's now one of the senior players, and if he wants to go to a better side he ought to realise you can't let your performance drop.

Potts - 5
Looks like a centre half playing left back. At one stage Ravel played him a pass to force him to run into the space he should have taken up instinctively.

Poyet - 8
Enjoyed watching him play. Strong in the tackle, nice range of passing, and plays in the hole.

Ravel - 5
Not sure what his orders were from the management. If he was told to stand around, collect the ball, pass side ways without much movement, and under strict instructions that he shouldn't take anyone on, then fine. If not I don't get what he was doing.

Diame - 5
A battering ram, the crowd cheers, he spins, takes a few skilfull touches, then inexplicably misplaces a seemingly simple pass.

Valencia - 5
Pace and wants the ball at his feet, or played into space to run onto. Doesn't look like a footballer who will flourish under Allardyce to me at all.
You have to worry for him. Everything is in place for him top be another incredibly expensive flop.

Sakho - 6
I was quite impressed with him in the first half, he was taking up dangerous positions. Not sure what he was told to do in the second half though?

Vaz Te - 5
Struggled again. Occasionally gets in a decent goalscoring position, but in terms of contribution to attacks and playing football, he's not cutting it.

Downing - 5
A left footer, who cannot play right wing. So why is he being played there week in, week out?

Zarate - 5
Some nice touches, little dribbles, and enthusiasm but couldn't produce.

Noble - 6
Usual Noble like performance.

These ratings would have been higher all round, if that fat f**king pr**k of a manager would have some balls and after half time tell the side to go out and kill the game off - he had his chance to go and play some attacking football with the influence of the new signings. We were all there for a bit of a show and a chance for the new strikers so get some goals and maybe get morrison on the ball more around the opposition 18yard box rather than our own. Sheff Uts were so poor and lacked so much quality they didnt touch the ball first half.

Expect a 0-0 against Southampton

Totally agree with that summary although I would give Sakho a 7 - ultimately scored and brought others into the game well

Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
Valencia - Looked lost and far from a £12 mil striker, penalty miss summed up a poor night for him

Poyet - Looked a first team regular rather than a youngster. Extremely good passer of the ball however 9/10 of them are sideways or backwards, needs to play more penetrating forward balls

Burke - Very good and relaxed for a 17 year old, big things to come

Ravel - Lacked match fitness and needed to commit their midfield 3 more

Jussi - Rusty as fook !

Everyone else was bang average !
